oops, i assumed everyone knew what this meant.
to "try it in *scratch*", make sure that buffer is in the right mode:
M-x lisp-interaction-mode
(it might already be in that mode.) next, copy the forms there. then
for each form, place the cursor after the last close-paren and type C-j
to invoke `eval-print-last-sexp'. each form's "value" is inserted
directly into the *scratch* buffer, and as a side effect of the last
form, so will the glyphs. you can delete them as you would normal text.
(for the benefit of complete newbies: for a tutorial on how to start
using emacs, type `C-h t' and/or check out some of the emacs-related
newsgroups.)
