I disagree.  As far as I remember, SGF FF[4] urges to use `[]' when
writing, but to be able to parse `[tt]' properly for backward
compatibility.  I may be wrong here, but it seems logical.  Go on
boards larger than 19x19 is very rare, but why make SGF incompatible
with it for just such minor issue?

And what exactly readers do you mean?  Not that I tried many, but I
have never had any problems with SGF FF[4] way of writing passes.

You must be using an outdated GNU Go.  `AP' was fixed quite a while
ago.
