That is one way to try it.

This is not accurate. It is installed and it runs out of the box. If not I 
would like to hear about it (system, chipset, what goes wrong e.g. database)

There is no installation neccessary unless I screwed up.

So you are saying GNUmed is the problem because it did not run on a business 
card version of Debian lenny ?

You could just as well have tried Ubuntu. openSUSE, Mandriva, Fedora

Pardon me ? I believe you got the client installed. Please tell me your 
expectations so we can see if we can get anywhere near of what you expected.

Please provide the log files so we can fix the error and make it more pleasant 
for our users in the future. Which version of the database did you attempt to 
bootstrap.

I have many recent reports on the fact that the net_install script worked out 
of the box.

Depends on the perspective.

It is very much possible and it is done like this in the live CD. We strongly 
discourage this procedure.

But it is possible and can be done simply by restoring a database dump. The 
instructions you post below work for GNUmed as well. There is just one catch.

If you update ledgersmb in a year or so and it messes up the database it won't 
hurt. If you update GNUmed that way and it messes up the database (it will ) 
people might die.

No. I have only tried VMWARE.

Yes. On some boxes there are dlls missing and it will not run postgresql from 
USB drive. This can be solved by either getting these dll from various 
sources or installing postgresql to install the dll files (you don't have to 
use it afterwards)

I consider this a problem of postgresql on win32.


To make this absolutely clear. One does not have to bootstrap at all. One can 
always install and configure postgresql and later restore a database 
dump/backup of GNUmed-server. We *simply do not recommend* this and have not 
posted instructions (those are not GNUmed specific anyway)

We have not done this because this procedure cannot be used for updates and we 
anticipate hard to track errors introduced by this procedure.

If you absolutely feel you need to do this I can send anyone the restore 
scripts. Those are on the Live-CD as well and can be gotten from there.

Last but not least we are interested in making the bootstrap procedure even 
better so we are in need of error reports.
