Replacing @REMOTE@ let me compile and link ok but I got the following error when I ran "./make check":

owner:/usr/make/make-3.80# ./make check
Making check in glob
/bin/sh: line 1: make: command not found
make: *** [check-recursive] Error 1
owner:/usr/make/make-3.80#

This is  a known problem with GNU make 3.80; it has been fixed for the
next release.

You should replace @REMOTE@ with "stub", so it would be remote-stub.c.

If that doesn't work please provide the error messages you're seeing.
