I am aware of this problem (I am not an Octave developer), and to work around
the problem I supply to 'configure'
-l:liblapack.a
in addition to the rest of the stuff.
Then I hack Makefiles (I build using my own tool, so this hacking is done by
code) and delete from them '-l:liblapack.a'.
