Thus the filebrowser binding foobar.tar.gz to foobar won't affect the find in an another window.
The find will not be affected, as it should not list hidden files (only if explicitely statet), AFAIK.
I think this could solve most of the problems, and make the application in question make the decision about what it likes to do.
It doesn't solve the basic problem how to make legacy apps interact with the polytype interface.
