Great tip about Corehost, never heard of them before. Are there any other freedom-respecting hosts out there? Might be nice to compile a list! I'd also prefer hosts that run on 100% renewable energy if there is one?

Corehost offers virtual private servers and is very emphatical about

Have you considered hosting it yourself? There are projects like
Freedombox aimed at making personal servers on small devices easier to
set up and use. You could make wonders with a cheap, low-power ARM
computer and a relatively reliable Internet connection. The only
downsides I see compared to a VPS is the physical management of your
server and dealing with dynamic IPs.

Hi all,

Does anyone have suggestions for finding server space where I could
set up Friendica? Ideally this would be a service that is
well-disposed towards Free Software and its role in society. I'm sure
I could find a web server, and maybe it would support Friendica, but
it would be great to work with people who understand my goals.

Some gratuitous background: I wrote some months ago about setting up
a small personal server to run Friendica and possibly other services.
I've made enough progress in that direction to realize how important
it is to do this securely, and it's going to take me considerable time
to achieve that. It's still a goal, though. Getting space on someone
else's server is a second-best option. In addition, my mother wants
to learn about Facebook, so I feel there is some urgency to offer an
alternative.
