whoops, that's exactly the kind of thing I should have noticed!

Kieren:
  sudo port install texlive
(you might need texlive_texmf-full as well, but try it with just
that first)

granted, macports reports it as being unmaintainer, but it'll get
much more usage and testing than tetex.
