Feature wish: LOUTDIR environment variable |

Hi!
I am preparing a lout distribution for MacPorts (www.macports.org).
Compiling etc., is easy as usual, but installing
gives me some grief. MacPorts uses a destroot mechanism, i.e.
everything is installed in a clean directory first, inventoried and
then later copied to the final destination. The inventory is kept around
for later deinstalling.
Now, lout prefers to launch itself as a first run to initialize
several files
while installing. When I specify PREFIX to point to the destroot,
this first run works, but after the install the paths to the
definition files
are messed up. If I specify the installroot as PREFIX, the first run
barks
at me. Caught between a rock and a hard place I wish there was an
envvar to override the compiled-in PREFIX etc. I have seen other
products that provide this facility.
Is there such a thing in Lout?
If not, is there something to the same effect?
I guess it would be easy to patch it in myself,
I just want to ask first.
Any chance to put this in a later release?
Thanks for your patience and answers,
Gabor
