It sounds as though you may have downloaded the source code distribution
which is set up for people who are accustomed to compiling programs. We
have many people on Linux, Unix and other multi-user systems for whom this
is the way they install new software.
Are you perhaps using a PC running Microsoft Windows? There are compiled
copies on the net, check at Lynx links for where to get them, specifically
http://www.crl.com/%7Esubir/lynx/binaries.html
If you have any more trouble please write to <address@hidden> where you
will get to the developers themselves. The installation instructions that
come with the compiled distribution are not quite commercial grade but I
wouldn't think you would find them that bad.
