it's blocked (vs. stream as the LZ family, which includes zlib)

how about lzma?
compression is more expensive, but decompression is as cheap as for all 
the other lz*, it's streamed and it yields an even better ratio than 
bzip2 for many inputs.


that is, if it's worth changing at all (my guess is, it isn't)
