I could rename it export, as it wouldn't bother me. I only chose
publish as that's how I'll be using it semantically. I'll rename it
export with a publish alias. Does that work, or should I drop publish
completely?

It is useful, indeed, I needed such a thing a couple of times ago myself
and always copied my workspace and cleaned out the files by hand.
The only thing I'm moaning about here is the name: why not name the
command export? This should be recognizable by people using CVS and
would be indeed, like Richard already mentioned, the perfect symmetry to
mtn import...
