Follow-up Comment #10, bug #49386 (project octave):

Hartmut,

guessing from Philip's test results in bug #43099 (comments #32 and #33
there), it might be worth including that patch in a try build.

I also think that it is a good idea to use toLocal8Bit where toAscii was used
before cset 2fd4f1a3f4a8 like you explained in bug #49118 (comment #25 there).
Might that also solve the remaining differences between Windows 7 and Windows
10 in bug #43099?

Btw: Can you enter non-ASCII characters in the GUI console in Windows? Umlauts
typed on my keyboard are completely ignored. Pasting them from the clipboard
also does not work.
