Is the 4.0 moratorium over with? There's a backlog of gnuplot graphics
toolkit bugs/patches that should be addressed, and I think those users
who like the gnuplot toolkit will miss having more flexible gnuplot
options. Most of the following have an associated changeset, but not
sure how out of date they are (I can update them in next couple weeks if
need be):
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?38914
bug #38914: Gnuplot axis reverse is not working with gnuplot 5
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?44932
bug #44932: Add support for gnuplot xterm terminal type
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?44861#comment4
bug #44861: Image display in a 3D view
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?44187
bug #44187: Bugs and modifications in print() with gnuplot graphics toolkit
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?34523
bug #34523: surf() with gnuplot does not handle FaceColor correctly
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?45139
bug #45139: gnuplot gtk: Patch demo example 7 does not have a jet() gradient
[This one I've held off because it requires some fairly sizeable changes in
gnuplot, including hidden 3D surface (removal).]
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?44978
bug #44978: gnuplot toolkit fails to recognize problems with older
gnuplot versions
https://savannah.gnu.org/patch/?func=detailitem&item_id=8203
patch #8203: Add -ddumb device to print.
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?43552
bug #43552: linewidth and markersize reduced when printing compared to
the gnuplot window
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=43907
bug #43907: OpenGL render code called even when gnuplot is graphics_toolkit
