The followup bug is fixed in cvs head, but since it was committed late
last night it may not have propagated to the anonymous cvs mirrors yet.

For the sluggish posting problem, I'm not sure whether this is a Pan problem
or not.  Try running pan from a console with --debug-socket to listen to Pan
and your server talk to each other.
