[Pan-users] Feature idea: Image scaling

With one button, pan could be made into an excellent newsgroup media browser. As a companion to the "Messages with complete binary attachments" filter, a "Show only attachments" button could put the message pane into an image browser mode, in which the text of a message is ignored and only the binary image attachment is shown ... *with* the option to scale it up or down to fit the whole image, the full width of the pane, or the full height of the pane. Ideally, as much of this would happen automatically as possible. (I'm dying for a scaling option for attached images... hate scrolling!)

As a touch of refinement: when a non-image attachment is encountered, a button to "Save attachment" appears in the message pane rather than the dialog that generally comes up. Click the button (or hit a key combo) and THEN the dialog should come up. It would be less obtrusive, and it would avoid having to deal with an unrequested dialog when a message with, for example, an .AVI file attached is accidentally selected in the headers pane.

For that matter, an ability to set default location settings for attachment files would be great. Then if you select a message with a non-image attachment you want to keep, just hit the button, and pan takes care of saving it to your specified downloads location.

I've used pan for years now, at first on a linux machine in GNOME and now under X11 on Mac OS X. It's hands-down the best newsgroup reader out there, regardless of where your interest in newsgroups may lie. Keep up the excellent work...
