Hmm... my custom scheme uses T for thread/threading here, alt-t for 
thread-headers...

I long ago lost track of what the default for that is, but do you use the 
defaults, or a custom scheme?

If it's a custom scheme, you're editing the file with pan closed, right?  
And you're remembering to remove the leading semicolon indicating a 
comment on that line when you edit it, right?

If you're running with the defaults, try (with pan closed of course) 
removing the accels.txt file entirely.  Pan will reset to defaults and 
recreate it.
