I'm struggling with wmi right now. wmi is alluring because I can run
all my old dockapps and lavaps with it, but at the same time it's very
irritating. I'm having great difficulty learning to use wmi, whereas I
picked up ratpoison in just a couple days. Ratpoison is amazingly easy
to become competent in.

my biggest complaint about wmi is the lack of two VERY important features:
the ability to toggle back and forth between two clients (like C-t C-t in
ratpoison) and no way to easily select an arbitrary client by identifier
(like C-t number or C-t ' in ratpoison)

there is supposed to be a feature implemented soon called
'select-client-id' which allows you to select a client by number.

also, wmiremote doesn't seem as powerful as invoking ratpoison on the
command line. I'm not sure there's quite a good way to save framesets
like in ratpoison either. both of which kind of rule out an app like
expose.pl which absolutely rocks.

the root cause of my complaints about wmi seem to be that it's not
nearly as mature as ratpoison, so it has lots of bugs. hopefully the next
snapshot this weekend will have lots of fixes. I wish it were ready now
but it may be one of those projects to check back in on later (like a
few months or so)
