A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
Daniel T. Hable <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: expat
Other License:
Package: UNO Application Server
System name: uno
This package does NOT want to apply for inclusion in the GNU project
The project I am proposing is your run of the mill application server. The
biggest different is the support for multiple programming languages within the
same box and even the same application. While this sounds like .Net, it does
have two distinct differences:
1) The run time modules are tied to specific programming languages. This
differs from the CLR which tried to understand and run all languages. Thus, the
new application server will open itself up to new languages, like Ruby, if the
language author writes the interperter conforming to a series of standards.
2) Any existng library module can be used in the application server. Instead of
controling the library anything posted on the Internet can be used in an
application. It will be up to the server admin to flag library modules as
restricted or native code. Thus I can download all the hard work on CPAN and
use it in my application.
The end goal is to create a single application server that can run Perl,
Python, Ruby, C, C++, and Java on a single box. This will become the new glue
of the 21st century enterprise.
It does not exist yet but I\'m working on it.
