box #1 - no problem ssh-ing from mrxvt or xterm on freebsd.
box #2 is in another room. if i ssh into the box, i have problems with
altchars & screen (with both mrxvt & xterm). if i walk up to the box and
log in, xterm/screen/altchars is fine but mrxvt/screen/altchars is hosed.
i can also run xterm over ssh and screen/altchars works fine.
box #3 - on the other side of the planet. altchars & sceen is broken (with
both mrxvt & xterm). i can run xterm over ssh and screen/altchars works
fine.
locally (on freebsd) i've had no problems with screen or altchars.

Seems to work OK here:
$ echo '^[(0 q w e r t y u i o p } { a s d f g h j k k l z x c v b n m ^[(B'

(?) Hopefully will display OK your end.
(?) The slots that correspond to r, o, p, s, are displayed as spaces but that's
because the terminus font does not have the corresponding glyphs.
