Can anyone give a convincing explanation of what the difference is?
All we can know about the "real world" is our models of that
world. Hence emergence we see in our models of the real world, and in
our abstract models seem to be the same thing.

The only difference between real world models and abstract models is
how we measure utility - the ability to make accurate predictions vs
understanding of phenomena.
