(Hopefully there's enough overlap between the audiences for NetLogo and
Swarm for this to be of interest here...)

                          NetLogo Workshop 2004
                               July 19 - 23
                         Northwestern University
                            Evanston, IL, USA

The Center for Connected Learning and Computer-Based Modeling will
conduct a workshop on modeling with NetLogo, the agent-based parallel
modeling and simulation environment designed for the study of complex
systems. The intensive week-long workshop will be from July 19th
through July 23rd at NetLogo's home just outside Chicago on the
Northwestern University campus in Evanston, Illinois.

The workshop is intended to serve the needs of both educators and
researchers. There will be support for people with little or no
experience, as well as for advanced users of NetLogo. We expect a
group with diverse backgrounds and interests, which promises to
create a stimulating, productive, and fun workshop for everyone. The
large variety of phenomena that can be explored with NetLogo will
make this workshop a truly interdisciplinary experience.

The talented and diverse team which has developed NetLogo at the
Center for Connected Learning and Computer-Based Modeling will be
available for the workshop and for one-on-one support. The team has
considerable experience leading NetLogo workshops for modelers at
many different levels of experience. The workshop will include a
balance of individual modeling with structured tutorials and group
activities to explore and illustrate the nature of complex systems
and emergent behavior.

The week will begin with basic instruction as needed and progress
through the steps of exploring the existing library of models,
extending an existing model, and building your own model of a
phenomenon that interests you. The workshop will conclude with
presentations and sharing of models. Along the way there will be
     # Emergence simulation activities
     # HubNet Activities
     # Discussions about using NetLogo in classrooms
     # Discussions about using NetLogo in research
     # Plenty of time to work on your own or in groups
     # Fun excursions in/around Chicago

The workshop will take place primarily at Northwestern's
state-of-the-art Learning Studios at Annenberg Hall. 24-hour access
to the studios will be available to all workshop participants.
Macintosh laptops will be provided for participants' use. (You are,
of course, welcome to bring your own machine to use.) The staff of
the Center for Connected Learning -- including software developers,
curriculum developers, graduate students, and professors -- will be
on hand, representing a wide range of expertise.

Dates: Monday, July 19th through Friday, July 23rd

Cost: $500. Meals are included. Limited financial aid is available.

Lodging: available in nearby dorms for $40 per night from Sunday
night through Friday night, or at nearby hotels and B&B's ranging
from $55 to $120 per night
