Well,

  it's actually not a crash but more of a "temperamental exit", so, and this would just be a temporary hack, commenting out line 360 of src/src/Texmacs/Server/tm_server.cpp (the one that reads FAILED("invalid situation")) would at least prevent texmacs from dying/committing suicide on you.

What do you mean? It worked for commit 3624 and no longer for 3625?
The commit 3625 seems quite unrelated to this issue...

The problem also occurs on SVN head. Type in an underlined block does not update the screen (unless enter is pressed). Closing the document crashes texmacs
