Zsh is famous in disturbing Tramp. Read the Tramp manual:
(info "(tramp)Frequently Asked Questions")
You need the following line in your ~/.zshrc on the remote host:
[ $TERM = "dumb" ] && unsetopt zle && PS1='$ '
