in other words, your fix was right.  If you are in a hurry and want to
proceed with the tutorial, just do all the fixes, as you described.

If you have time to do "the right thing", then try to upgrade the packages
which own the respective /usr/share/aclocal/*.m4 files in question.
If you are not willing to upgrade them, just look at the latest available
source tarball, or even in their development CVS or subversion.
If you see that the bug is still there, report the problem to the list
of that package, perhaps even with a small patch.
