The bash version that was used in the original report was:
/home/trudeajo$ /bin/bash --version
GNU bash, version 2.05b.0(1)-release (powerpc-ibm-aix5.1)
Copyright (C) 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
/home/trudeajo$
I was able to bootstrap the latest bash (3.2.39) after installing 8
other packages. I reran autoconf build and got a very similar result.

This failure is really weird (but luckily rather harmless).
Which '/bin/bash --version' is this?
Thanks,
Ralf
