I believe the security reason for separate-code is the risk that rodata 
could contain byte patterns that can be used as a Spectre gadget if branch 
predication state is manipulated so that an address in rodata is 
speculated as the target of a branch (this of course only helps if the 
processor checks page permissions before speculative execution).
