A while ago I submitted a bug report mentioning the same problem. I
got the reply:

Maybe it was possible that the name of the info buffer is displayed
in the mode line only if it is not the default name `*info*' (or if
there is not only one but several info buffers).
For me the point is that on our computer system we have a huge
number of info files and sometimes I need to look at several files
(or even just several nodes) at a time. This is much easier with
named info buffers.
