True. I don't mean to rule out the idea entirely. If somebody wants
to contribute such a patch, and it is done in such a way that it's not
a burden to maintain, then it could be a reasonable thing to include.
But I don't want to spend time on such work myself (nor do I know how :-).

I agree. I think that these features are all under consideration for
the future GTK+ widget, but if you are particularly concerned about any
of them it might be a good idea to get in touch with the GTK+ people so
they know what you have in mind.
