First, I agree it is important to be able to run on 800 x 600. For one
thing that means I can see it on my oldish laptop screen which only
supports an 800 x 600 resolution. This should be the lowest common
denominator. When I was working on this layout, I made a sample at 800 x
600 and it was no problem at all (attached here). The only thing that
really shrunk was the board, and even so it looked quite reasonable. A
little testing may be required at most, but I don't think much special
work would be needed.

Yes, this is very true, but it doesn't always mean what you're implying.
For example, I have a student who runs his Windows at 1152x864 on his
15" monitor (don't ask me why), and I have a friend who runs his 17" at
800x600.... :-)
