Many thanks -- I tried this with the latest 2.6 version and it worked
as expected.
I do have one more report for you: I'm not sure if it's a bug, because
I'm not absolutely certain what is and isn't valid notation.

Some of the rests for the second melody appear up on the ledger lines,
while others appear low on the stave. As I say, I'm not sure if this
is valid or not, but at the very least it makes the line quite hard to
read.
This was with Lily 2.6.3.
