This should already work.  If it doesn't, you have a broken glibc
setup, I believe...

The relevant bit in configure.in is:

dnl `getconf LFS_CFLAGS` gets the flags to tell the compiler to make off_t
dnl big (LFS == large file support).

Do you have getconf?  Is it in your $PATH?  Maybe there should be a
thorough hunt for it...
