all seem to be at least twice the size the should
be

where I have
~/local/share/denemo/actions$ du -hs menus/ObjectMenu/NotesRests
2.5M    menus/ObjectMenu/NotesRests


I think comparing what is actually one of these with what should be
there could perhaps halve the whole thing.

~/local/share/denemo/actions/menus/MainMenu/EditMenu/Delete$ du -hs .
is 36K while your installation has 64K, so comparing the actual eight
files in that directory would perhaps show where half the size is coming
from.


Some other things that caught my eye:

188.0K  /opt.bak//local/lib/ImageMagick-6.9.6/config-Q16
5.5M    /opt.bak//local/lib/ImageMagick-6.9.6/modules-Q16/coders
 28K    /opt.bak//local/lib/ImageMagick-6.9.6/modules-Q16/filters

5.5M    /opt.bak//local/lib/ImageMagick-6.9.6

272K    /opt.bak//local/share/ffmpeg

Not sure why these would need to be there.
And you appear to have both versions of guile:

 /opt.bak//local/share/guile/1.8
/opt.bak//local/share/guile/2.0/

this would happen if Denemo was using guile2 (while LilyPond has to use
guile1.8 - Denemo is happy with 1.8 too).

and you have
 60M    /opt.bak//local/share/icons/Adwaita
which is (I think) the GTK theme used by default
but then  others 
 /opt.bak//local/share/icons/hicolor
 /opt.bak//local/share/icons/HighContrast
which won't be used I think.
