Most distributions will not ship 4.4.0 at all (at least in the near future),
because the XFree86 project has changed the license on some of their code to
one that is incompatible with the GPL. The new license is apparently not
being applied to the client libraries (xlib et al.), but distributions are
apparently not taking any chances on that.
