some of you guys might be interested in this, although I *believe* 
SecureTransport is an OSXism, it may be able to make an alternate backend 
for it so that it uses something more generic

I've written an NSPort subclass which uses SecureTransport for 
communication, so if that's suitable for your purposes you can find it 
at <http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/securedo/>.  Even if it's not 
exactly what you want, you might find it instructive for your own work 
(particularly regarding private methods and DO internals).
