there are several examples around, however if you dare to look at 
something a little more complicated, Graphos in GAP just draws circles, 
lines... there is a lot of code you don't need, but the concept of 
drawing is the same.

The view calls drawRect and there it calls all shapes to draw 
themselves, you can easily check the code. It is split up that way just 
for versatility.
