According to the FAQ at Pioneer, these drives will not write at 4x, it 
is the 4x media that confuses them.

An article I read elsewhere says that during the OPC stage of the burn, 
the laser power ramps up to full and stays there and does not proceed 
further. After about 5 mins the laser has overheated and died...
