I don't know (anyone?).

Anyway, if gif_load clobbers edi or even simply doesn't push/pop it
(the machine code will show), then we know that this is the cause of
the crash.

Juanma, were the image support libraries compiled with MSVC or with
another compiler, like GCC?  Perhaps there are subtle differences in
the ABI supported by the two compilers.
