I've installed your patch along with code to handle remote url:s (with url-handle-mode) for non-MS platforms in dnd.el. I can at least drop ftp://-urls from nautilus. url-handler-mode does not handle smb://-urls, but it seems tramp do. Is that an oversight in url-handle-mode?
