I think that is sensible.

The ChangeLog files will show the detailed changes (with a suitable
header line) like this:

2007-06-01  Karoly Lorentey <address@hidden>

        Merge multi-tty branch to trunk.

        * file1 (func1): ...

        * file2 (func2): ...


The cvs logs will just say "Merge multi-tty branch to trunk".

That is more than adequate to follow the changes -- and in such cases,
the individual changes to each file doesn't really make much sense on
their own anyway.
