Yes, but you may want to ensure use of the C locale so the result is
the same for everyone.  We have this in coreutils, but I don't
particularly like the variable name:

    # Sort in traditional ASCII order, regardless of the current locale;
    # otherwise we may get into trouble with distinct strings that the
    # current locale considers to be equal.
    ASSORT = LC_ALL=C sort
