Besides, I may rebind C-y in a search to do what it used to do: exit the search!
Since Emacs 21 at least, twenty years ago, C-y does not exit isearch. In Emacs 21 to 23 it was bound to isearch-yank-line; starting with Emacs 24 it is bound to isearch-yank-kill.
