But this tooltip is associated with the menu item Close, which is well away from the mouse pointer. No tooltip should pop up while the mouse pointer is over the menu bar. Something similar happens for all the menus: an apparently random tooltip pops up. This only happens the first time I click on a menu after the mouse pointer has not been over that menu.FWIW, I cannot reproduce any of these on my machine, neither with the 22.0.91 pretest, nor with yesterday's CVS: I see no tooltips at all in situations that you describe, and that's what I'd expect. Does this happen for you in "emacs -Q"?Yes, I have been checking all my bug reports (except the one about emacsclient/server) using runemacs -Q. I'll try on a different machine as soon as I can. The one I have used so far for testing Emacs 22 is a tablet machine (although I have not used it in tablet mode with Emacs) and I suppose that might be causing some minor problems.
I have now built the 22.0.91 pretest on a completely different machine and I observe the same problem. I suspect it may be triggered by my build environment, which was the same (or very similar) on both machines. I built without image support, and if you built with image support then it may be why I see the problem and you don't. I'll try building with image support and see what happens.
