Reading the comments on that page, it seems that it is *really*
complicated.  Another facet is that according to

  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=719410

it is possible to switch on `emulation' of GDI ClearType with the DW
ClearType engine[1], however, this seems to be very buggy.  Sigh.

So I concur with Vern that it is extremely hard to find out what to
test exactly.

[1] To be precise, this means DW ClearType with subpixel positioning
    switched off.  I'll clarify in the ttfautohint docs that version
    37 and version 38 of the MS rasterizer are two completely
    different rendering engines.
