I'm not Jim, but I still think of the GDB steering committee as
largely a fictional body. I had no idea that it was alleged to exist
until some time after the cabal was in swing. There's no web page
giving information about it; there's
<http://sources.redhat.com/gdb/steering.html>, which claims that it
doesn't exist, and the only reason why I know about that page is that
somebody posted it. (Is there a link to it from the main GDB page?)
I have no idea who many of the members are (other than their names);
almost none of the members who aren't GDB developers have posted in
this discussion.

This is in sharp contrast to the GCC steering committee. I follow
GCC's development much less than GDB's development, but I'm quite
aware of the GCC SC's existence, and when I look at the list of its
members, I know who almost all of them are. Not all of them are key
GCC contributors (probably a healthy thing - as people have said, the
SC should represent key interests in GCC, and while GCC developers
have a strong interest in GCC, they're not the only people who do),
but they (almost) all seem to at least follow the main GCC mailing
list and post there fairly frequently.

A GDB steering committee like GCC's would probably be a good idea.
