On a closer inspection (with apt-cache policy), it looks like none
of my currently active repositories contain that package anymore.

The gstreamer1.0-libav package is available here:

 *** 1.2.4-1~ubuntu1 0
trusty-updates/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

trusty/universe amd64 Packages

I hadn't tried it.
Can you share the URL of the youtube video to check if it works here ?
