Thanks Oliver,

I spent some time looking for the netbook who best fits to my needs. All they were Intel based, because I always used that branch since 486. I'm afraid that a mips-l wouldn't run software compiled for IA32, right? I know that the netbook you mention is designed to run fully free software, but sadly my needs includes using all kinds of software.
There is no machine can run all kinds of software. IA32 machines cannot run MIPS compiled software either.
In respect of the game, do you know the sony PSP/ps2 is MIPS based?

Regards

In respect of the game, i dunno if it will be easyer learning C++ and complete the engine, rather than hacking and changing artwork of KQ. Really it would be my first big program, and i'd prefer the second choice. The target could be change the look and the engine to make it look like Final Fantasy 6, the prettyest game of the SNES I remember. Later, with minor changes It could be possible to make it look like FF7-8-9, substituting sprites with polygons and using renders as backgrounds (some parts of those games are 3D, but i remember a 3D "mode 7" in SNES FF6, so a 2D engine could be adapted).

This is something I have been thinking to do a lot of time, but don't really know how to do it. Using the code of KQ brings me the oportunity to see a full game, is better point to start in my opinion. These kind of games, JRPG or turn based RPG, lacks not only in Free Software World, they lack also in the mostly common PC world. In change, its a very popular kind of game in consoles. I think as you, that any game is welcome to the free software community.
