sorry for the delayed reply - busy times :)

Ok, smsd is version 1.4-cvs (20041011)
Unfortunately, there is no error that i've been able to find.
The cell is a Nokia 7110, or NSE-5 as recognised by Gnokii - this
appears correct, as the phone has that tag also.
The phone doesn't get switched off when restarting smsd.

It is likely there is an error I am not seeing and will look into
getting some logging setup.

what version of smsd?
what error you get?
what phone are you using and how you configured it in gnokiirc?
do you turn off the phone when you restart smsd?
