Unfortunatly I moved the checksum file to a tmp dir earlier in order to
check out my source, so here's the permissions for a checksum in a
project I just created (my system locale is ga_IE or Irish Gaelic so
excuse the translated words)

I think I've only ever run official releases, but I could have done
something stupid like this.
