I've backed out Inge's patch and rerun the regressions.

The only tests broke by Inge's patch are the two in filllib.tst.

I then ran cvs diff to confirm that my version is the same
as in the CVS.

Comparing with my earlier run, your patch must have broke
the following tests:

strategy 10 and 18
viking 1 
trevor 411
strategy3 111
strategy4 194

and fixed:

viking 2
buzco 6
global 7
strategy4 160
